Questions and Goals for Workshop
Questions for Discussion
-
Is there a next generation or just a set of disparate
developments?
-
What is common about these new interfaces, what things or
ideas connect them? What differs?
-
Taking reality-based interaction as a provisional concrete starting point,
can we extend, expand, find support for,
disagree with, discredit,
or replace it
or introduce alternative opposing or complementary approaches?
-
Psychological evidence or theories.
-
Ways to test or validate frameworks and concepts we develop.
-
What can we say that gives us leverage to move forward,
predict, understand, find sweet spots?
-
Opportunities for new designs inspired by gaps uncovered by
this thinking.
For Presentations
-
Introduce your work or your position, current interface
designs or research that you see as part of next-generation
interaction.
-
How does the notion of reality-based interaction fit—or not
fit—your work or topic area?
Details of where it does or doesn't fit if possible.
-
Improvements/refinements/replacements/etc to reality-based
framework; and/or alternative or complementary ideas on
frameworks for next generation interfaces.
Workshop Goals
-
A lens or common language for viewing, discussing, comparing, and advancing
proposed innovative new interface developments and technologies—to
provide
some coordinate axes on which to
put them into perspective and organize them.
-
A research agenda for new work both in
gaps suggested by our frameworks
and in
ways to evaluate or validate our frameworks.
-
Create a community of HCI researchers who are thinking
specifically
about connecting our research to other developments in next generation
interaction.
