Graduate Students

Why should you study at Tufts? The Computer Science department is a vibrant environment of learning and research in Computer Science. We offer several graduate degrees in Computer Science ranging from PhD to certificates. Our faculty, students, location and resources are some of the reasons that make us an outstanding choice. Please read more about why you should study at Tufts.

Degrees

PhD Program (and MS/PhD track)

The department offers a PhD degree with possibilities for specialization in a variety of areas in Computer Science. Tufts Computer Science offers the advantage of first class research couched in a supportive atmosphere of a small department. Applicants are urged to check our research pages for descriptions of current and future projects and interests. For more details please see our webpage on the Ph.D. Program

Masters Program

The Masters program is suitable for applicants who already hold an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or closely related field. It gives an excellent choice of advanced courses giving students a chance to see the breadth of the field while also maintaining a mandatory core set of advanced courses. Some of the courses are offered regularly and others are offered as special topic courses. Course work is complemented by a special project or thesis. This degree can be used to broaden the scope for computer science professionals. It is also an excellent tool for students interested in a PhD degree but still unsure of their focus area and/or requiring further expertise. For more information about the degrees and courses, please see:

Masters in Bioengineering-- Bioinformatics Track

Interested in Bioinformatics? Come get a masters degree in Computer Science (see above) or you might want to consider: The Department of Computer Science participates in the Tufts Engineering-school wide Bioengineering Masters Program through a track that allows a specialization in Bioinformatics. For more information, please see

Post-Baccalaureate Program

Are you interested in computing but you have an undergraduate degree in another field? Our post-bachelor's certificate program can prepare you for challenging work assignments or for further study in the computing field. Graduates of our program have gone on to successful careers in the Computer Science field or to masters or Ph.D. programs in Computer Science, and hold diverse positions including researchers at Mitsubishi Electric Research Labs and Google.

Certificate in Computer Science/Certificate in Human-Computer Interaction

The department offers graduate-level certificates in computer science and human-computer interaction. The certificates are offered on a part-time, non-degree basis for students seeking professional training in these fields. In most cases, courses taken in a certificate program can be transferred into a graduate degree program. For more information, see our Graduate Certificate Information Page.
