Ph.D. Program

We offer a strong Ph.D. program known for its personal attention to individual students in a dynamic atmosphere in the Boston area. Our faculty are leaders in their research areas, and we have strong research groups in both estabished and novel areas of the discipline. Our faculty also heavily exploit Tufts's support for multi-disciplinary research, with the result that you can find cutting-edge work defining the future direction of the discipline in progress here.

Please read more about why you would want to study at Tufts.

Admissions to the Tufts Ph.D. program are made to the department, not to an individual faculty member's research group (though if you already know who you might want to work with, please tell us on your application!). The department offers extensive support for Ph.D. students in the form of fellowships and research and teaching assistantships. These positions cover the nine-month academic year and include a combination of tuition remission and stipend. Ph.D. students pursue several options during the summer, typically working at research labs, TAing summer courses, or staying to work in their research groups at Tufts.
