Programming Assignment 3 - Introduction to Eclipse

Due date: Before class on Thursday, 9/30/2004

This assignment is worth 5 points and will familiarize you with the Eclipse IDE. Your task is to go through a built-in tutorial and produce a HelloWorld application.

Since Eclipse is not currently working on the lab machines, you will need to install it on your own machine. Download the correct package for your OS from this link, then install the software. Note: Eclipse requires an installed JRE and Java SDK. You probably already have one installed from the previous assignments. If not, you can get the Sun JRE at www.java.com and the Java SDK from http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html.

Next, start Eclipse. You will see a Welcome screen. Choose "Tutorials" and then choose "Build a simple Java application." If you don't see the Welcome screen on startup, click the Help menu and choose "Welcome".

Now work through the tutorial. When you finish the tutorial, take a screenshot of your Eclipse environment showing the finished HelloWorld.java file including the System.out.println() statement. This screenshot is the only thing you need to submit for this assignment. To take a screenshot in Windows, press the Print Screen button to copy the current screen to the clipboard, then open Windows Paint and paste the image. Save the image, preferably as a GIF file to save space.

Submit the screenshot using the provide utility. You will need to log into sun.eecs.tufts.edu and use the following command line:
