To be a computer professional one must be learning new concepts constantly. It is also clear that the truly effective professional, whether in academia or industry, must be able to teach new concepts effectively. Faculty members must constantly integrate new material into courses, while members of programming teams must be able to communicate new concepts to other members of the team. This course will explore effective ways of communicating concepts at all levels, from organizing semester courses to giving single lectures to writing Java applets and Web pages to writing effective papers and documentation. We will critique existing examples of all of these as well as designing and producing new ones. All students will be expected to do some speaking, coding, and writing. No previous Java experience is expected - we will use Java as the sample subject matter for lectures and writing assignments.
Time and room to be arranged. Interested students should contact Prof. Blumer at the phone number or Email address above. Class size will be limited to facilitate discussions.
Prerequisite: Permission of instructor.
