Abstract

For educational technology to be adopted into practice, the technology should both align with desired educational outcomes and be able to be feasibly used by students and instructors. Through the use of learning analytics and user-centered design, more personalization and awareness can be integrated into systems to support these goals. In this talk, I focus on technology to effectively support learning across whole class, collaborative, and individual work. A key challenge is to understand when it is beneficial for students to be working collaboratively and individually and how to personalize these transitions to individual student needs. Adding to this challenge are the dependencies between students that this personalization creates in the classroom and how to reduce this additional load for the instructor.
