MEDFORD: MEtaData Format for Open Reef Data
Abstract
Quals talk
Abstract:
Reproducibility is a cornerstone of modern research. However, in current methods, it is easy to lose track of small details that can either make or break the results. Key details, such as software versions or genome scaffold IDs, can easily be lost as research materials are transferred to collaborators or submitted for publication. There have been numerous developments and novel sites for the storage of data, ensuring that there exist spaces to store these details, but the mechanisms for recording these details are cumbersome and highly prone to human error. We propose MEDFORD, a syntax for storing research metadata in a single, easy-to-read and easy-to-write plaintext file that can be seamlessly translated into formats expected by modern database systems.
