Abstract

SOI offers microprocessor designers the possibilities of higher performance and/or lower power. However, these advantages come with some significant challenges such as the history effect and off-pass gate conduction. Techniques being employed to adapt current microprocessor circuit methodologies to SOI will be examined. Opportunities for changes in circuit techniques to exploit SOI’s unique advantages will also be presented.
