Abstract

Abstract for demo class: In this lecture, we'll walk through the fundamental concepts that underlie neural networks, as well as how they're combined to produce models that learn from data. We'll close with some additional points worth emphasizing about neural networks, which preview more advanced questions that machine learning researchers study about these kinds of models.

Bio:

Sofia is a PhD candidate in Computer Science & Engineering at the University of Washington. Her research has mainly focused on topics related to interpretability and explainability of natural language processing models, although she's also interested in model evaluation and NLP for social science. She's also very interested in AI literacy more broadly, and has done several talks in that area for a variety of audiences both in and outside of computer science.
