Abstract

Quals talk:

A one-size-fits-all approach to robot assistance does not consider the user the assistance is meant to aid. Whether a robot is moderating a group or collaborating with a user on a creative task, if the robot's behavior is not aligned with the user's we may see an impact on performance, efficiency, trust, and fluency. In this talk, we highlight the motivations for robot personalization and discuss results from a study focusing on groups moderated by a robot with personalizing behavior. This study investigated group factors such as cohesion and performance while equalizing participation for each member. Additionally, we outline future work regarding robot collaboration and assistance personalization with creative and open-ended tasks.
