Abstract

As computer programmers, we rarely get to look into the inner workings of the devices we use on a daily basis, especially the more complicated ones like Virtual Reality equipment. In this talk I will map out the evolution of a football helmet and hand-held television into a working VR headset, and discuss the issues and conflicts that arose. I will then explain the options at hand for video overlay, which is the idea of inter-twining two streaming video inputs, and debate hardware vs. software solutions for live performance. Finally, I will present my working hardware-based system and allow a few volunteers to try it out.
