A survey of optical fibers and semiconductor laser diodes used in high speed, telecommunication systems

October 25, 2000
12:30 pm - 1:30 pm
Halligan 111
Speaker: Richard Sahara, Corning Lasertron
Host: Dr. M. Cronin-Golomb

Optical fiber transmission systems have formed the hardware backbone of the Internet. This seminar will first review optical fiber fundamentals, and then explore how the fiber characteristics have guided the design of transmission lasers. The presentation will focus on practical design criteria for commercial communication systems.
