Abstract

Optical fiber transmission systems have formed the hardware backbone of the Internet. This seminar will first review optical fiber fundamentals, and then explore how the fiber characteristics have guided the design of transmission lasers. The presentation will focus on practical design criteria for commercial communication systems.
