Abstract

A deep understanding of anatomy is essential for the creation of expressive character animation. The talk will look at the human body both from the outside-in and from the inside-out, presenting some of the big challenges in anatomic modeling, simulation and visualization, as it pertains to our understanding of human form and function. The talk will cover a broad spectrum of material ranging from the digitization of Bodyworlds exhibits (http://www.bodyworlds.org) and anatomic considerations in the 2005 Oscar winning animation "Ryan" (http://www.nfb.ca/ryan), to a clinical application for the anatomic simulation and visualization of the human hand.
