Tufts Multimedia Research Center

At the present time, universities are very good at training some students to be engineers and others to be creative artists. What does not exist is the kind of education that brings Engineering and Arts together as equal collaborators to produce graduates who combine technological and artistic expertise. At Tufts University, we recognize that the interactive media industry needs these kind of individuals. Tufts unusaual combination of strong programs in Engineering and the Arts allows students and faculty from many disciplines to work to and learn together.

Tufts University's Minor in Interactive Media preapres students to be both technologically and artistically creative so that they can integrate arts, technological perspectives and provide expertise in the creation of new media. Our graduates fill the gap between artists who can use but not create new media and computer scientists and computer engineers who can create sophisticated tools but lack firsthand artistic expertise.

The minor includes:

These courses are chosen from an approved list of Tufts course offerings. The minor culminates in an interdisciplinary team project, which is supervised by faculty members of the Computer Engineering and Computer Science Department and the Arts. Tufts also arranges summer internships at a corporations so that students receive real world experience.
