Vannevar Bush

Vannevar Bush was a Tufts student, graduating from Tufts College in 1913 with both a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degree. He was also a faculty member from 1916 to 1919.

Prior to coming to Tufts he was taught mathematics by his older sister, Edith Linwood Bush who was the head mathematics teacher at Chelsea High School at the time. Edith Bush joined the Tufts Mathematics faculty in 1922 as an assistant professor, becoming the first woman to teach engineering courses at Tufts. In 1925 she became Dean of Jackson College and a full professor of mathematics. She received an honorary doctorate from Tufts in 1942. Bush Hall at Tufts was named in her honor.
