Raymond S. Nickerson

Raymond S. Nickerson obtained his PhD in experimental psychology at Tufts in 1965 and became well-known for his work in cognitive and experimental psychology and human factors. He was the author of many books on rationality and probabilistic and mathematical reasoning. He spent 25 years at BBN Systems and Technologies, becoming senior vice president.

He was also a Research Professor in the Tufts Psychology Department, which gives the Raymond S. Nickerson Innovations in Psychological Science award to graduate students whose scholarship shows innovation in understanding psychology from theoretical, conceptual, methodological, and/or analytical perspectives.
